Marmot rocks Zillertal (2-5 June) and Leah Crane joins Marmot
Next weekend I will be heading over to Austria to meet up with all the Marmot athletes and sample the delights of the Zillertal granite. I’ve heard a lot about Zillertal over the years but never made it there. So seeing as my last climbing trip was Spain in October, I am looking forward to getting on some different rock and having a week away.
I almost wasn’t going to go, as my climbing rehab hasn’t been going quite as well as I’d hoped- due to work commitments and general winter malaise- but the Marmot guys have been very supportive and encouraged me to head over. There are a lot of very good climbers on the Marmot team at the moment, all climbing high f8’s and f9’s (including our own Neil Mawson and Ste McClure), so I’m hoping that the crags we end up at have some easier routes to do too. Otherwise, I may be doing a lot of belaying! I think the idea is, along with cranking we will be getting product shots of all the current and future Marmot pieces for catalogues, so Tim will be there too as an official photographer.
I have decided to drive over. There was a very convenient overnight train to Munich but I as decided quite late that I was going to go, all the train tickets had sold out. So I am going in my van; the reason is that I seem to have developed an aversion to flying in the last few years. It’s completely illogical but feels quite real when you are experiencing it, not very nice. So I will be doing an epic two day drive to Austria on my own, as Tim, Ste and Neil had booked their tickets long ago. It should be an adventure though.
Also, some exciting news, Leah Crane one of the UK’s top boulderers, has now joined the Marmot team. It’s really nice to have another female on the UK team and as I’ve known Leah since she was a wee nipper and recognised her talent, it’s great to see her climbing so well. She’s doing the World Cup bouldering events and getting some very impressive top ten results!
